Is your organization frozen in fear
of change because you get angry when their first steps aren't
perfect?...John
Management idea
In one of our strategic planning
review meetings, the team agreed that the major accomplishment since the
last meeting was a change in attitude. The organization now accepts that
new systems don't have to be perfect before they are deployed.
In six short months they developed
new order tracking systems, enhanced personal accountability, a customer
parts receiving system, etc. These had been important goals for many
years, albeit goals that never produced results. What was holding
them back before, was that at the first glitch in any new system or
approach, there was immediate anger, yelling, and finger pointing.
Everyone quickly returned to the old system. With the change in
attitude, instead of yelling, they fixed the expected glitches exposed
by any system change.
Think of change as a process rather
than an event Focus first on getting a working system and then
continuously enhance that system by fixing flaws and increasing
functionality and efficiency.
