Are you fully considering the impact
of relocation on your new hire's spouse? An unhappy spouse will trump
even a dream job...John
Management idea
We have a client that recruited the
absolute perfect candidate for a key senior position. He had the
industry experience, leadership traits to develop the entire next
generation of leaders, and apparently loved the idea of moving to the
southern location of the company headquarters. He accepted the job
and was everything they hoped for - he quickly became a corner stone of
their growth strategy.
What they had failed to appreciate
was that his wife's entire family lived in the northeast. She hated the
climate, what passed for entertainment in the local community, and the
extreme isolation from everything she loved. In the end it became a
choice between a job he enjoyed - even loved, and the woman he had
loved since high school. Guess who won? For key hires you
have to invest time in meeting the spouse and understanding the depth of
their buy-in for
any required relocation.
