Getting ready to make a
presentation? Be sure to ask yourself what specific action you
want the listener to take following the presentation...John
Marketing idea
Concerned that they were not
meeting the expectations of their largest customer, one of our clients
settled on a plan to make a series of PowerPoint presentations to each of the major
customer groups.
In the discussion, which dwelled on
the content of the presentation and the starkness of the analysis, one
voice was heard to ask. "And just what do we expect them to
do once they hear the presentation?" "Well - hum - ah -
dah - I guess we don't know." was the only response.
After discussion we developed a
sense of the questions the customer would likely ask us - what we thought the options were, the
consequences of each action and our recommendations. We identified
specific actions on their part - acceptance of the need to act, approval
of the job we were doing, and - ultimately - a renewal of the contract.
